Home Litters Stud Dog Lyonhurst Mastiffs Ladies About Us

Lyonhurst Mastiffs has been breeding and showing Mastiffs since 1981. It has always been our objective to produce dogs of correct type, size, soundness and temperment.  Our first Mastiff, Ch. Brandywine's Ragamuffin (Muffin), was bought in 1981, the show experience began, and we were hooked!

Muffin produced only one litter in 1983 of 12 puppies. Of those 12 pups, 7 became Champions. Through the success of that litter, Muffin was granted the Mastiff Club of America (MCOA)Top Producing Bitch 1985 and Hall of Fame Awards along with the Dog World Award of Canine Distinction. From that litter we kept a male, Ch. Lord Valerian of Lyonhurst (Doc) who was the true foundation of the Lyonhurst bloodline.   We now have with us Doc's grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren.

We do not run a kennel of dogs. The number of Mastiffs with us is kept to a number we can live with in our home. They are all part of the family. The dog shows are fun, the wins always appreciated and the opportunity to talk with fellow Mastiff lovers informative, but this is not a driving force with us. You will find us at the shows in our  area every now and then but more often that not, you'll find us home on the weekends.  We occasionally have a litter of pups or a stud service puppy available for placement.  Our pups are home-raised and well socialised. Although we breed for the show quality Mastiff, the majority of our dogs are placed as family pets. Our top priority to to place the right puppy with the right family. The quality of our dogs is the result of years of selective breeding to insure the puppies we place are the best Lyonhurst has to offer,  whether for show or companion.

We believe in genetic testing for our dogs and insist on it for the puppies we place.  Our reputation has been based on placing sound dogs and being on hand for information and assistance for the people we place them with. We believe our responsibility of being a reputable breeder includes being there for the new family for the lifetime of their dog.  We are always there, always interested and ask to be kept informed.  Please contact us for information on the Lyonhurst dogs, test results, contracts, and upcoming litters. We will be glad to answer any questions. We welcome visitors but ask that you please call us first for directions and to set a time for your visit.
